A cloned dog, a Mormon in mink-lined handcuffs and a tantalising mystery

At first it seemed a straightforward example of the oddball stories which emerge during the long, slow, news days of high summer.

A 'Californian woman' had paid £25,000 to a South Korean laboratory to have her dead pitbull terrier cloned, in the first transaction of its kind.

'Bernann McKinney' had saved tissue from the ear of her beloved 'Booger', which was frozen after the dog died, and then used as DNA source material to produce five pitbull pups.

So far, so silly season. (But as the eccentric Miss McKinney beamed joyfully from the world's television screens on Tuesday, vague bells began to ring.)

The face was familiar, albeit older and heavier. The surname was the same.

So was the alleged American, ex-beauty queen background and the unusual devotion to pitbull dogs.

Surely it wasn't? Could the new owner of the world's first commercially cloned pups be the same woman who had gone on the run from British justice 30 years ago, having been the star of one of the most bizarre, entertaining and downright saucy court cases in living memory?

In 1978, Joyce McKinney jumped bail and disappeared after being charged with kidnapping a 17-stone male Mormon missionary, whom she had chained to a Devon cottage bed with mink handcuffs and forced to have sex.

At the time, she famously said of her victim: 'I loved him so much that I would ski naked down Mount Everest with a carnation up my nose if he asked me to.'

Were these two blonde, American, dog-loving and, yes, quite possibly barking mad, Miss McKinneys one and the same person?

This is the latest chapter in The Secret's David Schirmer "con man" story.

After making some unfulfilled promises to Australian investigative reporter Ben Fordham on Channel Nine, Schirmer was planning an assault on New Zealand when he was also challenged about these broken promises by TVNZ's Robyn Janes.

David Schirmer also claimed he was donating profits to the Australian charity, Scope, but the charity allegedly knows nothing about it.

David Schirmer says these investigations on national television are good for his business, so Channel Nine's ACA say they are happy to keep them coming. (this saga is getting past weird now)

Daredevils and famous big wave surfers Garrett McNamara and Kealii Mamala made history last week when they become the first people to ride a wave caused by the melting of Child's Glacier in South-Central Alaska.

McNamara and Mamala, one on a surfboard and the other riding a jet ski, brace themselves at the foot the Glacier as the thunderous roar of the crashing ice falling into the sea begins.

The creator/producer, Ryan Casey, "discovered" the wave in 1995, while on location shooting in Alaska. Then after finishing his last film, Quest, a documentary on big wave surfing, he showed Garrett the wave... that was six months ago. Wacky Judge Roy L. Pearson lost his $54 million claim against Custom Dry Cleaners of Washington DC for losing his trousers... well he has lost this round and has been ordered to pay the defendants out of pocket costs.

District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff is still to rule if the suit was frivalous and possibly order Wacky Roy to pay up to $100,000 in legal fees for the Chungs. (ouch)

Judge Roy Pearson received extensive local and national media coverage in early May 2007 for choosing to exploit Washington’s well-intentioned but loosely worded Consumer Protection and Procedures Act in suing a family-owned D.C. dry cleaner for more than $65 million — over a lost pair of suit pants.

His pants were even found a week or two later, plus the couple have offered him a $12,000 settlement to drop the matter... but still he has stubbornly pushed on with the case for more than 2 years, almost bankrupting his victims in the process.

June 11th was the Judges day in court and to show just how "reasonable" he actually is, reduced the claimed amount to just 54 Million bucks! LOL

Obviously drunk after a long lunch with Vladimir Putin. This video was recorded at a press conference held by recently elected French president Nicolas Sarkozy, during the G8 summit in June 2007.

French tv did not release this video (this recording comes from a Belgian tv show). Sarkozy said many times during the campaign drinking goes "against (his) lifestyle" and that he never drinks alcohol.
